Everything you need to know about our EAN-13 codes: usage, compatibility, delivery, and billing.

Use your codes

A barcode does not contain any written information: it is simply a unique number. Your company name, the product description or its price are not ‘contained’ within the code. It is the sales platform (marketplace, POS software, online shop) that links your EAN number to your product listing when you create the item: you enter the number, then fill in your product details alongside it.

Each code comes with a high-definition image in PNG and SVG formats. From your customer account (or via the personal link sent to you by email), you can download the image and then print it or place it directly on your product’s label or packaging. The PNG is suitable for standard printing; the SVG remains perfectly sharp regardless of size.

Yes, that is perfectly valid. An EAN-13 code starting with 0 corresponds to the North American UPC-A format, which is accepted everywhere. If your stock management software or scanner does not recognise it, this is usually because the scanner removes the leading zero and transmits only 12 digits: enable the ‘transmit leading zero’ (or ‘UPC-A in EAN-13’) option on your scanner, or save the item using 12 digits.

Consumer-facing scanning apps query community databases populated by the sellers themselves, rather than an official directory. Until you have listed your product on your shop, a marketplace or a directory, the app will have no listings to display. This is normal and has no impact on the validity of the code.

No. Each code identifies a single product and remains associated with it for life. A new code is required for any new product variant — including variations in size, colour or format. We do not recommend reusing the code of a discontinued product, as historical records may still exist at retailers.

Understanding the codes

The 12-digit UPC is the traditional North American format; the 13-digit EAN-13 is the international standard used in Europe and around the world. Both are based on the same system — an EAN-13 starting with 0 corresponds exactly to a UPC. To sell in Europe and internationally, the EAN-13 is the appropriate format.

No, that’s a very common misconception. The prefix identifies the organisation that originally issued the series of numbers — not the country where the product is manufactured, nor the nationality of your company. A company from any country can use a code regardless of its prefix.

Yes. A valid EAN-13 code is recognised worldwide, regardless of the country in which you sell. The same code can be used across your international shops and marketplaces without any additional steps.

Each code is unique and has never been assigned to a product before you. You have exclusive use of it, and it is yours for life, with no expiry date and no renewal fees.

Ordering and delivery

Delivery is automatic, via email, within 5 minutes of payment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will receive your codes, their images and your certificate, which can be accessed at any time via your customer account.

You need a separate code for each product, and a separate code for each variant: each size, colour or style counts as a distinct SKU. For example, a T-shirt available in 3 sizes and 2 colours requires 6 codes.

We will replace any code that has been rejected by a standard marketplace or that does not work, free of charge. Simply email us with your order number, and we’ll sort it out straight away.

Payment, invoicing and VAT

Credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as local payment methods depending on your country (for example, Bizum in Spain or MB WAY in Portugal). Bank transfers are available for bulk orders.

Yes. An invoice including VAT is generated automatically when you place your order and can be downloaded from your customer account. For businesses in the European Union with a valid intra-Community VAT number, the reverse charge mechanism applies and the invoice is issued excluding VAT.

Registration and marketplaces

No registration is required to sell on standard marketplaces or in your own shop. If you wish, you can publish your codes in our public directory to make them verifiable: this provides an extra reassurance for your buyers.

Standard marketplaces — eBay, Cdiscount, Fnac, Rakuten, Etsy, Google Shopping, as well as Shopify, WooCommerce and PrestaShop shops — accept a valid EAN-13 without requiring it to be registered in your name. Only the Amazon Brand Registry programme, which is reserved for registered trademarks, requires codes registered directly in your name: in this specific case, our codes are not suitable, and we prefer to be upfront with you about this.
